American Masterpiece Touring Artist
IN CINCINNATI FOR THE FIRST TIME
Don’t miss your chance to catch the oldest, continuously operating professional dance company from the Dallas-Fort Worth area as we kick off our season of celebrating women dance artists and women-led dance companies. Artistic Director Melissa M. Young leads Dallas Black Dance Theatre, a gorgeous ensemble of 14 dancers performing a mixed repertory of modern, ballet, jazz, and ethnic work by nationally- and internationally-known choreographers.
Dallas Black Dance Theatre was designated as an American Masterpiece Touring Artist in 2008 by the National Endowment for the Arts and is proud to be the recipient of the coveted 2017 Texas Medal of Arts award for opening doors for artistic & educational opportunity for Texans of all ages, from the Texas Cultural Trust, February 2017. In August 2021, Dallas Black Dance Theatre made its Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival debut.
Stick around on Friday night or come early Saturday night for a Q&A with the company or deep-dive interview with Ms. Young. Dancers can also attend a masterclass on Saturday.
